Psychological and Psychoeducational Assessment
Dr. Rankin and Dr. Broudy assess children, adolescents and adults using cognitive, academic, and emotional measures. Testing can help identify reasons for difficulties in school performance, on standardized tests, and in work settings. Assessment can also clarify the nature of emotional difficulties and aid treatment planning.
A complete assessment usually includes an intake session in which we gather information about the reason for testing and life history, 2 to 4 testing sessions, and an interpretive session in which we explain test results and recommendations for intervention and treatment. The examiner provides a detailed written report of all test results and recommendations. After the assessment is complete, we would be happy to explain testing results and discuss recommendations with other client-involved professionals or in a school meeting.
Admissions Testing
Dr. Rankin and Dr. Broudy conduct testing that can be submitted to area private schools. We can also perform individual testing required for appeals to public school Gifted and Talented programs.
Consultation to Schools
Dr. Rankin and Dr. Broudy provide consultation to schools including psychoeducational testing, classroom observation, and educational and treatment planning. Dr. Rankin has participated in presentations to teachers on learning disabilities and teacher self-care.
Psychotherapy
Dr. Rankin works with older children (usually 10 and older), adolescents, and adults in psychotherapy. Her approach is primarily cognitive behavioral supplemented with an understanding of a psychodynamic framework. She also considers a family systems perspective when assessing and treating clients. For this reason, she integrates family and parent sessions into her work with minors. Dr. Rankin has intensive training and experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and she integrates some DBT techniques, skills training, and exposure therapy into her work. When treating children and adolescents, she enjoys using artistic materials to facilitate the therapy. She integrates practical, goal-directed techniques into working on organizational difficulties with adolescents.
Dr. Broudy works with children and adults, age six and up through young adulthood. Her therapeutic approach is mostly consistent with cognitive behavioral approaches and evidence based treatments. She also uses a systems perspective to inform her work, particularly when working with children. Dr. Broudy seeks to integrate mindfulness strategies in her work with both children and adults to treat a range of issues related to anxiety and depression. She believes in a collaborative approach where clients identify the goals they have for treatment.
